Shortness of breath could be a sign of an underlying issue with your lung function.
In addition to our various medical testing, Main Street Medical Clinic offers spirometry testing at both of our locations. Spirometry (spy-ROM-uh-tree) is a standard breathing test used to measure a patient’s overall lung condition. If you are showing signs of restrictive lung disease, your doctor may suggest this medical test for further diagnosis.
A number of chronic lung conditions can be identified through this test, such as:
Our clinic is renowned for our personalized patient care and experienced medical testing in each of our doctor’s offices. Before your spirometry test, we will ensure that you are in a stress-free environment to provide the best results.
To measure how much air your lungs can handle, patients will take a deep breath and forcefully exhale into a tube. The physician might have you repeat this test multiple times to get an accurate measurement of your breathing strength.
Your spirometry test results will measure your forced vital capacity (volume of air your lungs can exhale) and your forced expiratory volume (amount of air forcefully exhaled in one second). Both measurements will determine whether your lungs are under distress or not.
